SWAN SERVICE INDIAN FLOWER BRANCHES SERVING

Sale price$2,238

...come into bloom

“Indian Flower Branches” is one of the most beloved motifs of Meissen manufactory, the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe. Modeled after East-Asian archetypes of Indian painting, the lotus floral motif and high-kara tgold accents are delicately applied by hand to the relief surface of "Swan Service", the high baroque triumph of modeling and firing created in 1737 for Heinrich von Brühl, the First Minister of the Electorate of Saxony and favorite of King Augustus III of Poland. Designed by Johann Joachim Kändler, the pattern features a delicate background with radiating bands based on a scallop shell and a central well dressed with a pair of swans on water amid bullrushes, swooping cranes, and fish. Several parts of the service depict figures from Greco-Roman mythology, like Glaucus and the dolphin-riding Galatea.
