BLUE ONION DINNERWARE
...peel the onion
The "onion" or "bulb" pattern is a European rococo-influenced stylization of a pattern first produced by Chinese porcelain painters. Unfamiliar with exotic fruits in Saxony, the plates and bowls produced by Meissen artisans in 1740 feature onions as mutations of the peaches and pomegranates from original Asian designs, which date back to the Ming Dynasty. The design also features a grouping of several floral motifs, with peonies and asters in the pattern's centre, and winding stems around a bamboo stalk. Handmade and hand-painted from Germany's Meissen, the oldest porcelain manufacturer in Europe.
